BASAL METABOLIC RATE (BMR) Calculator

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) measures the number of calories your body needs to remain functional while you are resting like heart rate, lungs (inhale/exhale), kidneys, cells, body temperature, and more.

The calculations for BMR are only estimates. The actual BMR is affected by many factors such as age, body shape, body composition, hormones, nutrition, stress etc.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is different than Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). RMR In addition to measuring the calories required to maintain essential life functions while at rest, it also includes the calories required for digestion and recent physical activity.

Therefore, the RMR measurements will be slightly higher than the BMR measurements .

There are many formulas available to calculate the BMR. The American Dietetic Association compared

several formulas and found that the Mifflin-St Jeor was the most accurate, predicting BMR within 10%

of measured values.
